Updated:  25 March 2020

  • The most common systems of COVID-19 are a new continuous cough and/or a high temperature (37.8C/100F or above).

  • If you live alone and you have symptoms, however mild, stay at home for seven days from when your symptoms started.

  • If you live with others and you or one of them have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill.

  • For anyone in the household who starts displaying symptoms, they need to stay at home for seven days from when the symptoms appeared, regardless of what day they are on in the original 14 day isolation period. You can see the latest government guidance here.

3. Staying safe and well

As with any virus, it's important to remember the simple actions that each of us can take to protect ourselves and others.

  • Always follow good hygiene practices – regularly washing your hands with soap and water during the day, but particularly after your commute and before you eat, always covering your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough with a tissue, disposing of used tissues immediately, and using antibacterial hand gel.
  • Try to avoid direct or close contact (closer than 2 metres for over 15 minutes) with any people who may be unwell.
