Energy flapjacks!

A great slow releasing energy recipie for long duration exercise from the Physioline team in Solihull.

Here is an easy fruit, nut and seed flapjack recipe I make to fuel my long cycle rides.  It can be used for any activity. It’s great for snacking on during exercise as it’s high in slow release carbohydrates and also contains some fat and fast acting sugars.  It’s also perfect for post exercise as it is high in protein. I prefer to make my own as it you can alter the recipe to your taste, it’s cheap and really tasty.



250g oats
125g butter (unsalted)
125 light brown sugar
1 tbl sp golden syrup or honey
1 tbl sp peanut butter
50g sultanas
50g chopped dates
50g flaked almonds
50g sunflower seeds and sesame seeds



Turn oven on 180 degrees C
Melt the butter and sugar in a large pan.
Add the rest of the ingredients (except the oats)
Lastly add the oats, a bit at a time
Place in a tray for 15mins
Cut once cooled
