The five marathons are;
December 2017: the Great Barrow Challenge
January 2018: Flitch Way NYD Marathon,
February 2018: The Vodafone Malta Marathon
March 2018: Great Barrow Challenge Spring Quad (plus the Cambridge Half)
April 2018: The London Marathon 2018
As part of the training, Ellie ran two trial marathons over the Christmas and New Year period, splashing through ankle deep mud in them both. Ellie finished as the 4th Lady in the Flitch Way New Years' Day marathon, her next challenge is the Malta Marathon, taking place in late February – her first marathon abroad!
The wonderful charity benefitting from Ellie’s challenge is the Circulation Foundation, which funds and promotes research into vascular diseases, as well as raising awareness. Vascular disease is as common as cancer or heart disease, and contributes to 40% of deaths in the UK, but awareness and funding for essential research isn’t nearly high enough. As a Vascular Surgery Registrar, Ellie sees patients and families suffer from this every day. Prognosis is often worse than cancer, and with the sort of research the Circulation Foundation is funding, this can be changed.
You can follow Ellie’s training journey on Strava here and you can help the amazing Circulation Foundation (and make all the mud and leg pain worthwhile) by sponsoring Ellie here.
